Ms Jin Loh’s online music theory lessons are unique and effective, as proven by her theory students' international music theory exams high distinctions results.

Ms Jin Loh thinks that it is important for students to really hear the music excerpts/scores printed on music theory books. If students could hear the sound demonstrated or played out, they may understand music theory better. Instead of just learning music theory through reading, memorizing rules or analyzing printed music scores on papers, Ms Jin Loh put in extra effort to prepare music excerpts/scores to be "played out" for students to listen, in order for students to understand certain music concepts better.

Depending on the music excerpts/music scores’ instruments, Ms Jin Loh try to arrange these music excerpts/scores to be played on the specific instruments such as on harpsichord, piano, oboe, cello..etc instruments, for students to listen.

For example, when Ms Jin Loh teaches her grade 6/7/8 theory students eg. what is harmonic sequence? What is figured bass? Ms Jin Loh uses the Harpsichord instrument to “play out’ music excerpts by eg. J.S.Bach (eg. from the ABRSM theory books music excerpts) for students to listen, while Ms Jin Loh explains to students.

J.S. Bach keyboard compositions were written for keyboard instrument eg. Harpsichord, not really for piano instrument during the Baroque period. Therefore, it is better for students to listen to the music excerpts played by the authentic instrument - the harpsichord, instead of using another modern instrument such as piano to substitute.

This video is an example of how Ms Jin Loh's theory student listens to music excerpt prepared by Ms Jin Loh played on a Harpsichord. (from ABRSM Music Theory in Practice Grade 7 page 12 exercise 24b).
