ABRSM Grade 8 Singing Distinction 2026 achieved by Alicia Lao under the guidance of international award-winning vocal educator Ms Jin Loh

ABRSM (UK) Grade 8 Singing Exam Distinction Result (2026) – Alicia Lao

Alicia Lao has achieved a Distinction (134/150 marks) in the 2026 ABRSM (UK) Grade 8 Singing for Musical Theatre (Performance) examination, surpassing the Distinction threshold of 130 marks.

This ABRSM Grade 8 Singing Distinction reflects advanced-level vocal refinement, stylistic control, and a convincingly communicated dramatic programme — the standard expected at Grade 8 level, where musical accuracy alone is never sufficient.

Under Ms Jin Loh’s guidance, her ABRSM Grade 8 Singing students have consistently achieved Distinction results in succession. This continuing pattern of Grade 8 Distinctions reflects structured training, refined artistic development, and long-term mentorship at an advanced level.

At ABRSM Grade 8 standard — particularly within Musical Theatre — the examiner’s priorities extend beyond vocal delivery. In Alicia’s exam report, the examiner repeatedly emphasised

  • character portrayal and storytelling across multiple repertoire selections,
  • noting immediate character communication
  • vivid expression, clear text delivery,
  • vocal tones and technique in high register,
  • dynamic colour, and convincing sequencing throughout the programme.

These strengths are cultivated through a precise, intentional process.

Performance Design and Artistic Interpretation

Beyond vocal technique, Ms Jin Loh designs each student’s complete performance blueprint in detail, including:

• Vocal interpretation, tonal shaping, and stylistic clarity
• Character psychology and dramatic intention
• Emotional pacing and narrative flow across repertoire
• Gesture language, eye focus, gaze control, and expressive detailing
• Stage positioning, movement pathways, and directional transitions
• Musical phrasing choices that support storytelling and character truth

For Alicia’s featured performance of “Pulled” from The Addams Family, the production presented here reflects the same integrated artistry. Ms Jin Loh directed the complete artistic vision of the performance and personally created the creative visual effects and video editing as part of the finished presentation.

In addition, Ms Jin Loh served as the examination piano accompanist, providing the full piano accompaniment for Alicia’s ABRSM Grade 8 Singing exam performance.

Every movement, phrasing decision, visual element, and musical nuance was carefully structured under guided mentorship, with Alicia executing the artistic direction with dedication, discipline, and expressive confidence.

This Distinction is therefore not simply an ABRSM Grade 8 Singing result.

It represents refined vocal pedagogy, high-level artistic direction, and a disciplined performance process where technique and storytelling are developed as one.

Congratulations, Alicia — a well-earned ABRSM Grade 8 Singing Distinction.
